Automatic versus Straight Bidding
In the most familiar type of auction the highest bid is on display, and higher bids are placed by competing bidders, gradually increasing the buy price. Yahoo! anada Auctions are a little bit different -- we offer "Automatic Bidding" -- and here's how it works:

Bid up to this amount on my behalf
You can tell Yahoo! Canada Auctions the maximum amount you are willing to pay for an item. The system will then automatically increase your bid by increments. This is known as "Automatic Bidding."

Automatic bidding has the following advantages:

  • You do not need to repeatedly bid for an item.
  • You can increase your bid while spending the least amount of money.
In other words, you have a better chance of winning the item without the hassle of placing multiple bids or bidding higher than necessary to win the auction!

Bid this exact amount
Otherwise known as "Straight Bidding." You can place a straight bid by entering the amount you are willing to pay. The system will immediately place your bid at the exact amount you entered. For example, if the starting bid is $1, and you enter a straight bid of $15, you will be the current high bidder at $15. This is a useful strategy to discourage competitors when you're committed to winning an auction. Learn more about Automatic Bidding and Straight Bidding
